Members of the public disposing of waste sort their waste into the appropriate areas for disposal. Large skip bins are provided for scrap metal, wood waste and general waste. Bunkers are provided for rubble, sand, soil and greenwaste. Cardboard is deposited in the shed for baling. Items such as electronic waste, gas bottles, paint, chemicals, light globes, asbestos, batteries, flares, motor oil, cooking oil, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and other household hazardous waste have special drop-off areas to enable appropriate recycling and disposal. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners are separated for degassing prior to being recycled for scrap steel.
